Conference Description


The theme of the Third 21st Century Academic Forum Conference at Harvard is Facilitating, Fostering, and Harnessing Innovation to Meet Key Challenges of the 21st Century. The organizers encourage submissions that approach this theme from a variety of perspectives under three major topic tracks: (1) Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century; (2) Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship; and (3) Socially Responsible / Impactful Research.

The primary aim of the conference is to bring together an international group of researchers and practitioners to encourage and support the development of a new framework for better understanding the dynamic and interconnected nature of education, research, business, and life in the 21st century.  The 21st Century Academic Forum is a Nonprofit organization committed to facilitating, fostering, and harnessing interdisciplinary, intercultural, and inter-stakeholder collaborative research initiatives.

Join us on September 20-22, 2015 in historic Boston, home of Harvard, MIT, and other world-class higher education institutions to learn with and from your fellow conference participants. You will benefit from the diverse and engaging presentations, as well as the ability to network with a global group of scholars and practitioners  Those interested in attending as Non-Presenters (Listeners) are most welcome to join in this learning and networking experience as well!

LeAnna Wilson, Ed.D. has taught in the field of education for over 20 years teaching in public, private, college, community arts programs, and currently as a full time faculty member for Connections Learning.  She teaches the K-12 Juilliard e-learning courses to students from all over the world.  In addition, she conducts administrative duties by overseeing a pool of teachers from across the country in her roles as a Connections Learning Master Teacher and as a Teacher Course Liaison. LeAnna started as a Curriculum Writer for Connections Learning, writing the Juilliard e-learning K-2 course. This course received the distinguished 2013 BESSIE award for the 19th Annual Best Education Software Awards.

Her education background includes a Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, and a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning.  Her interest and research in online learning, self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and student-teacher collaboration in the online teaching and learning environment has led her to present and publish her research through various conferences across the country.  LeAnna specializes in best teaching and learning practices in the online learning environment and has been recognized by her company as a leader in this area.  She is frequently asked to serve in various capacities that include presenting professional development sessions to teachers across the country on the impact of best teaching practices on student motivation in the online learning platform/

Maja Martinovic, Ph.D. is a professor at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management, where she teaches marketing courses within both undergraduate and graduate studies. She is also the Head of Department of Marketing and Communications, as well as the Associate Dean of the MBA Program since 2007. She has also taught the course Going to Market in the MBA program of Barcelona Management Institute (BMI), while she still teaches the Marketing Management course at the MBA program of Sarajevo Graduate Business School in collaboration with the University of Delaware and Texas A & M University-Commerce.  She has worked on translations, revision, and editing of several marketing books among which is the course book for MBA studies entitled – Managing Strategic Marketing. She is a scientific journal reviewer for the journals like Marketing Education Review (American Marketing Association). She regularly participates and presents papers at the international scientific conferences, as well as   professional conferences. She has published three book chapters, a number of cases in the field of marketing, and more than 40 scientific and technical papers in journals including Educational Studies, International Journal of Management Cases, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business (IJESB), World Journal of Retail Business Management, Acta Informatica Medica, Materia Socio Medica, Mostariensia, Үправление каналами дистрибуции i Рекпама -Теория и практика. In 2012, she published her book, "Marketing in Croatia - 55 business cases" ("Marketing u Hrvatskoj - 55 poslovnih slučajeva").
She obtained her MA and PhD from the Faculty of Economics, at the University of Zagreb. In 2005, she completed the International Faculty Development Program at the IESE Business School - Universidad de Navarra.

Ivija Bernatović, MBA is a senior lecturer at Management Departmenet of Zagreb School of Economics and Management, first AACSB accredited business school in Croatia. She teaches at undergraduate and graduate level, courses Management, Strategic management and Entrepreneurship. She also participating as visiting scholar program at the John Carroll University and St.Ambrose University, USA. She is active member of several professional organizations, alumni of EFER organization and author of dozen scientific and professional articles in the area of management, strategy and entrepreneurship. She has worked on revision, and editing of several books in management (Modern Management, Negotiation and Key management models). She regularly participates and presents papers at the international scientific conferences, as well as professional conferences in USA, France, and Turkey. She obtained her MBA st Zagreb School of Economics and Management and she is PhD candidate of Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana in the field of entrepreneurship – family business.
